NISAR Health and Human Services, Inc. prides itself on its reputation of providing quality therapeutic and educational services to individuals with special needs, including mental health, mental retardation, traumatic brain injury as well as other cognitive and physical disabilities.
Nisar's largest program involves the provision of wraparound services. Wraparound is a combination of behavioral, counseling and therapeutic interventions for children with particularly challenging behaviors such as autism, PDD & ADHD, and their parents. The services are team-based in dealing with the child & family in order to support the optimal functioning of the child and maintain the integrity of the family.
Another innovative service offered by Nisar is the Interactive Metronome (IM), a computer based program designed to train the brain to improve concentration, rhythmic timing and coordination. This program has been effective with many different diagnoses, including Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, a variety of learning disabilities, Pervasive Developmental Delay, Autism, Parkinson's disease and various brain injuries.
Recently Nisar became a service provider under the COMMCARE, OBRA and Independence Waiver Programs. These waiver programs give individuals with various types of disabilities new options in their quest to remain as independent as possible. Nisar will be providing speech therapy and behavioral intervention services to individuals who have suffered traumatic brain injuries as well as offering behavioral intervention services to those with certain other types of physical disabilities.
Located in Monroeville, which is just 20 minutes east of Pittsburgh, Nisar mainly serves clients who reside in Allegheny County. However, its Speech & Communication and Physical Therapy programs also provides services for clients who reside in Ohio and West Virginia. These therapies are provided by trained consultants in the clients' homes, at their workshops or their day programs.
